Why We Chose the Name Hagar—and Why We’ve Evolved into the Juvanni Foundation
Dr. Din’s first book was dedicated to Hagar, a powerful figure whose story lives on in all Abrahamic faiths. While the foundation has now taken on a new name—Juvanni Foundation for Single Mothers—the soul of its mission remains deeply inspired by her.
Hagar was an Egyptian woman whose strength, resilience, and faith became legendary. According to tradition, she was entrusted to the household of Prophet Abraham and later became the mother of Ishmael. Her journey through the desert in search of water, while caring for her child alone, is commemorated to this day during the Hajj pilgrimage. Her ability to face abandonment, survive despair, and create a legacy that spanned generations is why she was—and still is—an enduring symbol of empowered motherhood.
Dr. Din writes:
“Although I no longer consider myself a single mother, over the years I have come to truly empathize with the burdens, toil, vulnerability, and angst of single motherhood. That’s why I originally chose to honor Hagar by naming the foundation after her. As we grow, I’ve chosen to expand the foundation under the Juvanni name to reflect the full spectrum of services we now provide—but Hagar’s spirit continues to guide us.”
What We Do
At the Juvanni Foundation for Single Mothers, we are committed to supporting women who are navigating life on their own, often while raising children, working multiple jobs, and pursuing education or professional growth. Our programs include:
Job Interview Prep: Resume building, interview coaching, and pre-employment styling including hair, makeup, and clothing.
Financial Literacy: Workshops that help women build a sustainable relationship with money.
Health & Wellness Coaching: From nutrition to meditation and stress management.
Beauty & Confidence Building: Because how you feel about yourself matters in every room you walk into.
We believe single mothers deserve to have a reservoir of support—just as Hagar found water in the desert, we want every woman we serve to find hope, strength, and possibility.
By purchasing Dr. Din’s book or supporting the foundation directly, you’re helping us expand these services to women who need them most.
